Department Overview

Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established in the year 2011. Annual intake of students for B.Tech Computer Science & Engineering course is 60. The department has competent and committed faculty which encourages students’ involvement in various co-curricular activities along with their academics. A large number of students from our department get placed every year in national and multinational companies.  The students are also provided with the finest opportunities to join professional societies like CSI.

Department is active in the college NPTEL Local Chapter through which students can join online courses offered by IIT’s. Department of Computer Science and Engineering is doing exceedingly well in the fields of higher education, research and consultancy.

CSE department has well equipped computer laboratories with more than 300 computers.

 

Program Educational Objectives

  • Students will be able to apply their knowledge for the betterment of the society.
  • Students will demonstrate the capability to identify problems in the areas relevant to Computer Science and Engineering, formulate and design solutions innovatively.
  • Students will be able to address technological challenges in advance by applying their analytical capabilities.
  • Students will be in a position to face global competition in the field of Information Technology and get placed in top rated companies.

Departmental Library

A well equipped library is functioning in the department in addition to the central library. The department has a total of more than 400 books in various streams. The books are arranged subject wise. The library is maintaining records of all books/journals and question papers. It has current issues of IT related journals and periodicals for reference. The library is also maintaining issue/return reports.

a)CSI STUDENT BRANCH INAUGURATION

MGM College of Engineering and Technology has inaugurated “MGMCET CSI Student Branch”   on 9TH April 2019 under the able guidance of Prof. Dr T.K.Mani Principal, MGMCET. The Inauguration was done at the kind hands Mr.Shibas N.P. Campus Recruitment Lead –Kerala, Tata Consultancy Services. The COMPUTER SOCIETY OF INDIA (CSI) which was formed in 1965, has been instrumental in guiding the Indian IT industry down the right path since its formative years. Today, it has 72 chapters across India, 511 student branches, and 100,000 members including India’s most famous IT industry leaders, brilliant scientists and dedicated academicians. The mission of the CSI is to facilitate research, knowledge sharing, learning and career enhancement for all categories of IT professionals, while simultaneously inspiring and nurturing new entrants into the industry and helping them to integrate into the IT community. The CSI is also working closely with other industry associations, government bodies and academia to ensure that the benefits of IT advancement ultimately percolate down to every single citizen of India.

Dr.KannanBalakrishnan Chairman, CSI Cochin Chapter enlightened the students with the current technology trends, CSI Student Branch Culture, Quiz & Project Competitions, various national & international seminars, job scenario in IT and also informed about the importance of Computer Society of India Student Branch in Education field.

The CSI Vision: “lT for Masses”

Keeping in mind the interest of the IT professionals & computer users CSI works towards making the profession an area of choice amongst all sections of the society. The promotion of Information Technology as a profession is the top priority of CSI today. To fulfill this objective, the CSI regularly organizes conferences, conventions, lectures, projects, awards. And at the same time it also ensures that regular training and skill updating are organized for the IT professionals. Education Directorate, CSI helps physically challenged citizens by providing training ‘Punarjani’. CSI also works towards a global approach, by seeking out alliances with organizations overseas who may be willing to come forward and participate in such activities. CSI also helps governments in formulating IT strategy & planning

OBJECTIVES

Opportunity to participate in the international, national, regional and chapter events of CSI such as conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops, technical talks, free lectures on latest technological advancements in IT at discounted rates between 10%-50%.

  • Opportunity to offer workshops/ trainings in collaboration with CSI.
  • Join Special Interest Group (SIG) for research, promotion, and dissemination activities for selected domains, both established and emerging.
  • Opportunity to deliver guest lecturers in educational institutes associated to CSI across India
  • Opportunity for students to participate CSI-Conducted Events across India and interact & share knowledge.

b) Workshop On Ethical Hacking

CSI student chapter of MGMCET was conducted  a workshop on ETHICAL HACKING presented by Team Accent on 10th October 2019.More than 30 students participated  in the event. In  this workshop cyber ethics, email hacking & security, malware attacks, windows system attacks, online data Investigation, credit card frauds & Cases, playing with google by google hacking, android mobile hacking etc. topics will be covered with hands on experience . This workshop aims to give the students a basic knowledge of hacking and how to protect your system against hazardous effects.

  1. c)  Workshop On IoT

CSI student chapter proudly says that we organized and successfully completed a 2 day workshop on IoT in collaboration with Accent Tutors on 11th and 12 th of February 2020. 57 students of S6R and S8R actively participated in the same. The first day they got idea about Arduino open microcontroller platform and related programming. They did some sample project also using this platform and some sensors. The day 2 comprise of familiarization of Node MCU, Cloud Server and IoT application. They did many sample projects related to IoT.

TECHNOGEEKS  ( Department Association)

TECHNOGEEKS is the association of Computer Science and Engineering department. TECHNOGEEKS aims to educate the students on the advancements in the industry and learn concepts that are not part of the curriculum. The association conducts various activities like Technical Talks, Carrier guidance sessions, Seminars, Workshops etc. which will be led by students in accordance with the faculty members. Association activities gives opportunities and exposure to the students of the department to the technical world. It helps every student to improve their technical skills and gives strong foundation in the core areas of Computer Science. TECHNOGEEKS is run by the student coordinators under the guidance of faculty members from the department.
