Department events – Electrical association

Electrical association is the technical association of the Electrical and Electronics dept. Of MGMCET.

The inaugural function of the Association of Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department, for the academic year 2017-18, was held on 2nd of March 2017 with Prof. Elizabeth Sebastian, HOD of EEE, MACE, Kothamangalam the chief guest.

The inaugural function of the Association of Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department, for the academic year 2018-19, was held on 2nd of November 2018 with Mr. Rajagopalan Vadama, Retd. Deputy Electrical Inspector, Department of Electrical Inspectorate, as the chief guest.

The objective of this association is to  encourage the students to enhance their technical skills and also to provide ample opportunities for  their ideas. Various technical activities are organized via the association which is coordinated by the students under the guidance of faculty . This allows them to enhance their management and leadership skills.

‘Eblast’ TECHNICAL EVENT

1. WORKSHOP ON ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DESIGNING

Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department Association organized a two day workshop on Electrical system designing on 12 th &13 th November 2019. Mr. Eldhose Johnson, Client relation manager, Rabbit square, Thodupuzha and Mr Vishnu Prasad piloted the classes. All students of S5 EEE &S7 EEE attended the workshop. The technical contents of the workshop were Installation of Industrial, residential & commercial buildings, Selection of transformer, switchgear & cable, Main panel designing and selection & design of DB.

Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department Association organized a two day  workshop on PCB designing on 10 th and 11 th February 2020. Mr Varghese Benny and Mr. Eldhose Johnson, Rabbit square, Thodupuzha piloted the classes.

2. WORKSHOP ON PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) DESIGNING

The EEE association of MGMCET organized a two day workshop on PCB designing on 10 th and 11 thFebruary 2020. The Objective of this workshop was to  give an idea and introduction  to  Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Designing. Mr. Varghese Benny, Chief Executive officer, Rabbits Square and Mr. Eldhose Johnson, client relation manager, Rabbit Square piloted the classes. All Students of 4th, 6 th and 8 th semester from EEE Dept attended the workshop. The technical contents of the workshop were  Printed circuit board design using software tools, PCB fabrication as per design input, Testing PCB after loading components.

3. WEBINAR ON RESTRUCTURING YOUR PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

A webinar on restructuring your professional skills was organised by IETE students forum, MGMCET in association with Dept of EEE & Dept of ECE on 20th November 2020.All Students of EEE & ECE attended the webinar. Resource person was Mr. Alex Mathew, CEO & Founder, T-Horizon. The webinar discussed about  the scope of all engineering sectors, various skills that professional students should acquire along with their studies in order to sustain in this competitive world.

 4. POSTER PRESENTATION COMPETITION

A Poster presentation competition was organized  by IETE students forum, MGMCET in association with Dept of EEE & Dept of ECE .All  B.tech/Diploma students participated. Mr.Nitheesh Kurian, Assistant professor, Dept of ECE, Rajagiri college of Engineering & Technology, Mrs. Megha Peter, Assistant professor, Dept of ECE, Muthoot Institute of Technology & science were the guest. Poster presentation was conducted on the topic Post an innovative techonology to fight COVID. Prize amount was 1250/-.First prize won by Erin Edward George and Swathi Shabu of S1 ECE From KMEA College of Engineering.

5. TECH QUIZ

The EEE association of MGMCET organized a Tech Quiz on 19 th May 2022. All Students of 2nd,  4th, 6 th and 8 th semester from EEE Dept attended the quiz. First prize won by Anuraj of S4 EEE &  Second Prize won by Anand Sebastian of S6 EEE.

6. ELECTRIC CITY

Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department Association organized a to encourage various talents of the students on 20 th November 2022. Around 22 teams (3 person per team) attended the program.

Students Forum

IETE Student’s  Forum (ISF) of “MGM College of Engineering and Technology” has been set up with 86 student  members of ECE and EEE Department. Official Inauguration of ISF MGMCET was held on 4th April 2019. Dr. R Gopika kumari, Chairperson, IETE Kochi Centre inaugurated the  Forum. Shri C. Krishna kumar, Hon. Secretary, IETE Kochi Centre, Dr. M.V Rajesh, Vice Chairman, IETE Kochi Centre also graced the occasion.

1. ARDUINO- ROBOTICS WORKSHOP

The  Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) Student Forum of the MGMCET organized a two-day Skill Development Arduino- Robotics Hands- on Training Workshop on 1st and 2nd of May, 2019. Mr. Varghese Benny, Chief Executive Officer, RABBITSQUARE, Thodupuzha, piloted the classes. The technical contents of the workshop were: Introduction to Programming, Software Tool Chain, Interfacing of I/O Devices, Wireless Technology and Arduino-Robotics. Consistent with the present-day emphasis on skill development, 55 students representing from all the classes greatly utilized the opportunity for professional advancement.

2. INDUSTRIAL VISIT AT KEL(KERALA ELECTRICAL AND ALLIED ENGINEERING COMPANY), MAMALA.

Learning is all about practical implications of  the theoretical concepts. In lieu of this, students are required to have Industrial Visits besides their classes in order to have a thorough understanding of the concepts. With this objective in mind, a One – day Industrial Visit was organized by IETE Students Forum ( ISF) of MGM College of Engineering and Technology to Kerala Electrical and Allied Engg. Co. Ltd on 3 rd February 2020. Around 80 students and 7 teachers from  EEE and ECE  visited the industry.

Industrial Visits

Industrial visit provide an exposure to students about practical working environment. They also provide students a good opportunity to gain full awareness about industrial practices. Through industrial visit students get awareness about new technologies. With this objective in mind various industrial visits are organised by the department.

1. Industrial visit at Ramakkalmedu wind farm.

The Students of 2016-2020 batch of B tech had undergone an industrial training at Ramakkalmedu wind farm on 09/10/2019

2. Industrial visit at Banasura Sagar Dam

The Students of 2015-2019 batch of B tech visited Banasura Sagar Dam as part of their industrial visit on 20/09/2017 during their V th semester.

3. Industrial Visit at Cochin International Airport Limited

The Students of 2015-2019 batch of B tech visited Cochin International Airport Limited, (CIAL) as part of their industrial visit on 09/02/2017 during their V th semester.

Students Achievements

  • Abinav  Dutt  and Yadhu Krishnan  of S5 EEE achieved third for E-Collage competition conducted as part of IETE students Day celebration 2022 organized by IETE KOCHI CENTRE and SCMS SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING and technology Karutty on 12th february 2022
  • Unni P U of  2017-2021 batch got placed at  UST Global, Hyderabad
  • Eldho Joseph Of  2016-20  Batch got placed at  OEN India.
